Jivamukti Yoga
Jiva means soul and mukti means liberation. The ultimate goal of the Jivamukti™ Yoga practice is to become liberated while living. Jivamukti™ classes include an intense physical practice designed to bring up resistance to our essential nature, so that we can shed our false self or ego, and reconnect with our true nature which is joy or bliss. Jivamukti™ is one of the nine internationally recognized styles of Hatha Yoga, and is based on 5 Tenets:
Each class includes a minimum of 15 minutes of strict vinyasa (one breath, one movement), followed by vinyasa sequences that incorporate additional focus on grounding, balancing, opening, forward folding, twisting, and inverting, with some postures held for longer lengths of time. The flow of the Jivamukti™ yoga method is designed to improve balance, strength, and flexibility. A Jivamukti open class will burn approximately 300 calories in one hour. Caution: Jivamukti Yoga can lead to health and happiness!
Vinyasa Yoga Classes
Sharon Gannon, Founder of Jivamukti Yoga explains that the word vinyasa means “the ordered placement of the sequence of events.” Vinyasa yoga isa flowing sequence of asanas(postures) linked by breath and intention. Vinyasa classes begin with sun salutations, and continue with various flowing sequences of asanas designed to heat & purify the body, and challenge the practitioner to maintain a smooth uninterrupted flow of breath and a calm quiet mind.
